START at Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute!

Join the team at TBSI from 2pm - 7pm on 26th September for games and lab tours and to learn all about the fascinating work they do!

🎗️ Fighting Breast Cancer!

A group of young scientists across Europe is working to find new treatments for a tough type of breast cancer called Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC). Mathew Choaji, a researcher at Trinity College, will share how they are exploring new ways to help patients.

🦠 How Immune Cells Fight Bacteria!

PhD student Aoife Smith is studying special immune cells called macrophages. These cells can change how they react after meeting bacteria—depending on the type of bacteria and how long they’re exposed. Come see how our body’s tiny defenders work!

Metals in Life! 🧪

Did you know metals help your body work? Iron carries oxygen in your blood, and even medicines can use metals to fight diseases. In this activity, you’ll explore cool experiments that show how metals help living things — and how scientists can copy nature to make new, useful materials!

Immune Quest: Exploring the Defences Within

Want to know how vaccines protect you and your friends? Come to European Researchers’ Night and play your way through the immune system! Try hands-on games, look through a microscope, and see how our bodies team up to stay healthy.

The colours of life 🌿🧪

Why are plants green? Where do marker colours come from? And what happens when you test lemon juice or baking powder? Join us on Sept 26th to explore the chemistry of colours with fun experiments—make dyes from plants, split colours on paper, and test how acidic things are using colourful indicators!

🧠💓💪 How Your Brain and Body Talk!

Ever wonder how your brain tells your body what to do, or what makes your heart beat? In this fun demo, you’ll see how scientists can listen in on the tiny electrical signals from your brain, heart, and muscles. You can even try it yourself—watch your own brainwaves, heartbeat, and muscle signals appear on the screen in real time!

🛡️ Pest Patrol: Training your immune system to keep bugs out 🦠

How does your body get better at beating germs? At Trinity Biomedical Science Institute, we’re finding out! Join us on European Researchers’ Night and play our “pest patrol” challenge—see if you can train your defences to fight off a bug invasion faster and smarter!

✨ The Magic Lava Lamp Experiment! ✨

Did you know you can make a glowing, bubbling lava lamp right at home? All you need is water, oil, food coloring, and a fizzy tablet! First, pour some water into a clear glass or bottle. Next, add oil on top—watch closely! The oil floats because it’s lighter than water. That’s called density—it’s the reason some things sink and others float.
